Use Your Experience to Become a Permanent Resident!
Express Entry (EE) is one of the fastest ways to apply for Permanent Residence in Canada. Unlike other programs, with EE, applicant profiles are evaluated and assigned a score using a point-based system called the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). Depending on the scores obtained, applicants are then chosen through a lottery from the candidates’ pool and invited to apply for permanent residence.
The minimum score needed to get an invitation can vary every week, according to the highest-ranking candidates in the pool and the number of people who apply at the moment. On certain dates, the average minimum has reached 400/450 points from a maximum of 1,200.
Applicants gain points from different categories studied in their profiles, such as education, work experience, age, relatives in Canada, English and French levels.
Enhancing Your Express Entry Profile
If you are interested in applying through the Express Entry system, there are factors you can work on to gain more points and enhance your profile, like language and education. But there are some aspects that you will not be able to change.
For example, people between 20 and 29 years of age receive more points, but if you are out of this age range, you can’t do anything to improve your situation.
On the other hand, you can improve your situation by upgrading your studies; perhaps by studying for a Masters degree, concluding an unfinished career, or improving your language abilities in order to have a better score on your IELTS exams (International English Language Testing System) or TEF Canada (Test d’Evaluation de Français).

It is not necessary to have worked or studied in Canada to be eligible through Express Entry. A person who has never been to Canada and receives excellent scores on their English and French exams, along with one or more Master’s degrees, has great opportunities of being invited to apply.
There’s also an additional section included in the EE application that can give you up to 600 extra points on your profile if you have the following:
If you have a brother or sister living in Canada as a Permanent Resident or Citizen.
Score higher than NCLC 7 on all four French tests and CLB 5 or higher in your English test.
Get a Canadian post-secondary education of more than 2 years.
Obtain a provincial or territorial nomination.

To sum up, the best actions to improve your score in Express Entry are the following:
You can always study and retake English or French exams.
You can enroll in master’s degrees or other post-secondary studies to enhance your education.
You can find a job offer from a Canadian employer, supported by a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA). It will add up to 50 points to your profile.
It would be best if you considered the time you would have to invest in making these improvements. Depending on your current age, you could decrease your points for age if you choose to enroll in a new education program that you might end after you are 30 years old.
Applying with a spouse also adds points to your overall score.

It will depend on the program, the country of residence and the processing times in effect by the Canadian immigration offices when the application is submitted. You can find the approximate current processing times here.
Please keep in mind that these processing times are estimates. Sometimes offices process cases, prioritizing applications depending on several factors. Also, at times applications are forwarded to other processing centers that may have a lower work backlog, thus, reducing processing times considerably. If your application was not professionally prepared or contains errors or omissions, the processing times will be increased for several months or even years.

Submitting your profile does not guarantee an invitation. We work on your profile to make it the best possible, and we will advise you on how you can make it better.
However, receiving an invitation to apply for permanent residency may not depend solely on your score. Several factors like labour shortages or the need for specific professionals may trigger invitations to apply to profiles that may have lower points than other selected applicants.

Certain family members or dependents can be included in your application, they will be applying with you as the principal applicant and will be granted their permanent residency at the same time.

You can apply through Express Entry and then be invited to apply to certain Provincial Nominee Programs or you can apply directly to a specific province.
Both the Express Entry system and the majority of the Provincial Nominee Programs work on point-based systems. However, they have different criteria when choosing a profile to be invited to apply.
