Start Your Process Now

The Process, Step by Step

  1. Expression of InterestYour family member submits a profile with their personal information into the candidate pool.
  2. RankingProfiles are ranked similarly to Express Entry — the highest-ranked receive a Letter of Advice to Apply. The profile stays active for 1 year.
  3. Letter of Advice to ApplyYour family member applies for the PNP and submits all required documentation.
  4. Nomination and PR applicationOnce nominated, they submit their permanent residence application — the full process takes about 28 months.

At a Glance

  • The only PNP stream that allows sponsoring any close relative, not just spouses or children
  • Sponsors need at least 1 year of Manitoba residency and stable employment
  • Sponsors must show at least CAD $12,669 in funds to support their relative
  • The full process — from Expression of Interest to permanent residence — takes about 28 months

Each Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) is unique. Program requirements vary depending on the needs of the region.

If you are a permanent resident or Canadian citizen living in Manitoba, you may have the opportunity to support a friend or relative’s application for permanent residence.

If you wish to help a family member apply for permanent residence through the Skilled Worker stream under Manitoba’s PNP Family Support, they must prove a close connection to the province through one of the following options:

You must prove that you live in Manitoba and are willing to support a family member.

You must have prior work experience or studies in Manitoba.

This is the only program where you can sponsor any family member, without being limited to spouses or children, who may be:

  • Sibling
  • Niece or nephew
  • Aunt or uncle
  • First cousin (child of your aunt or uncle)

Note: This is not a sponsorship program, but you will need to financially support your relative.

As a sponsor, you must also go through a process to determine your eligibility. You must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident. You must have lived in Manitoba for at least one year and hold stable employment that will allow you to support your family once in Canada. It is essential to consider the following:

  • Show close ties to your family member and to Manitoba (supporting documents required)
  • Prove that any family member previously supported settled successfully and permanently in Manitoba
  • Be able to support your family member’s Settlement Plan

You may support the application of more than one skilled worker at a time if they are close relatives and you can demonstrate the ability to support more than one skilled worker.

Since this program aims to attract skilled workers, your family member must prove they are qualified to work in Canada. This means they must accumulate enough points through the assessment of language skills, employability, age, education, and adaptability factors.

You must also prove that you have sufficient funds to support your relative while they look for work. At least CAD $12,669 is required, and if dependants are included in the application, additional funds will be needed.

How to apply?

Expression of Interest

This is the first step to immigrate to Manitoba, and it involves submitting a profile into a pool of candidates. Your family member will need to submit their personal information and create a profile.

Your family member’s profile will be ranked similarly to the Express Entry system. The highest-ranked candidates will receive a Letter of Advice to Apply.

This profile will remain active for one year only. If your family member does not receive a Letter of Invitation to Apply before the end of the year, they will need to create a new profile.

Letter of Advice to Apply

Once your family member receives a letter, they will be able to apply for the PNP and submit all the required documentation.

If your family member is nominated by the province, they can finally submit their application for permanent residence. The process can take up to 28 months, considering that permanent residence takes around two years to be processed.

Our team can help determine your family member’s eligibility for permanent residence under this program and can assist in preparing the application.
